Highest Value

Bare Bright Copper

Uncoated, bright copper wire — clean and shiny with no solder, paint, or contamination. Must be at least 16 gauge. The highest-paying grade for electrical and plumbing scrap.

Maximize payout: Strip all insulation yourself before selling. Every foot of Romex or THHN you strip is pure bare bright — worth $4.05/lb vs. $2.00/lb in insulated form. A wire stripper tool pays for itself in one haul.

Standard

#1 Copper

Clean, uncoated copper with a minimum 99% purity. No solder, paint, or insulation. Typically copper pipe, tubing, and clean sheet copper from demolition or plumbing jobs.

Maximize payout: Remove any fittings, valves, or solder joints. Cut pipe into 3–4 ft sections — easier to handle and verify. Clean pipe from demo sites often qualifies at $3.85/lb or higher.

#2 Copper

Soldered, painted, or lightly contaminated copper. May include copper with oxidation, light surface residue, or small amounts of solder. Valued lower due to processing required.

Mintins / Clips

Fine-gauge copper wire under 16 gauge, including hair-wire and fine strands. Often sourced from electrical work, HVAC, and appliance scrapping. Requires careful sorting.
